Dear Donald

Museum De Domeinen Sittard (2020)

June 2020, ongoing
48 newspaper sheets, ink, metal rod
480 x 36 x 10 cm (variable)

An installation of ink-dipped newspapers hanging loosely over a rod.

Against the temporary (the newspapers fall in the mailbox, while the news is already outdated) I want to set a timelessness. In the search for a universal language, there are similarities with modernist visual language, particularly with the work of Donald Judd. Further reflection on his work plays an important role in this process. Against his belief in industrialization, I juxtapose fragility, chance, temporality, changeability and nuance. From a distance, my work looks sleek and minimalist, up close the work is a tangible form of human action.
